Update from Board Meeting

I wanted to give a quick update to those who were not able to attend the school board meeting in person last night.

As most know, there is a step-by-step process that has to be followed, so for the school board to even be able to vote on this, it has to first be added to the agenda for next month’s meeting. This was the purpose of our speakers last night, to request that the board consider adding it to their agenda so that they could hold a vote.

The meeting went great! There was not a huge turn out, but there were enough extra people that they had to find additional chairs, and a few teen boys were still left standing in the back. Both our high school principal & superintendent were both there & were very polite & supportive towards the students. (I’m not implying that they are necessarily in support of the rule changing, because they haven’t vocalized their stance on it yet, but they were very supportive of those who came to speak). Mr. Perrin said he appreciates the boys taking the proper steps to handle this respectfully.

There were 4 people who signed up to speak, and all spoke in favor of changing the rule. If anyone there was in favor of keeping the rule current shaving rule in place, they didn’t say so publicly.

Unfortunately, the board President wasn’t able to be there. In order for this to be added to the agenda to be voted on at next months meeting, the board president & Mr. Perrin have to both agree to add it to the agenda. Mr. Perrin said that he cannot speak on behalf of the president, so he can’t say for sure that it will or will not be added to the agenda, but did say that in the past whatever items are spoken about at one meeting will typically be the items on the agenda for the next meeting.

Mr. Perrin requested that we email him a copy of our speeches & a list of the signatures on this petition so that he can share a copy with each board member. At the time of the meeting there were 307 signatures. As of this morning we are currently at 330. The amount of signatures continues to steadily grow, and we are thankful for each of you who have shared the link with others to help us spread the word.

Several have messaged me asking if non-Grandview residents are able to sign the petition. YES! Anyone who agrees with this cause can sign it. Obviously, when the board views the list it will be nice to see a LOT of signatures specifically from GV; but we know there are lots of grandparents, aunts, uncles & former GV students who reside in other towns who want to still support the students- so yessss please continue to share the link with anyone & everyone.

We are so blessed to live in such a supportive community & to have such an amazing group of School Board members!
