The physical challenges faced by psychiatry patients are both from their illness and the side effects of the drugs. They together can cause emotional blunting due to a chemical frontal-lobotomy like phenomenon, some cognitive issues,sedation, lethargy, hypersomnia,hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes mellitus, inability to exercise,lack of motivation,obesity and later on the side effects upon heart and kidneys appear sooner. These side effects are more marked in psychiatric patients than the hypertensive and diabetic patients in the general population and as a result their lifespan is reduced by 15 to 20 years, approximately.
