Issues with DSM 5

DSM 5 stands for the 5th edition of Diagnostics and Statistics Manual. It's a reference manual used by psychiatrists wherein criterias for psychiatric disorders are enumerated. To begin with there were only 2 dozen psychiatric diagnoses/disorders,but now that has mushroomed into more than 400 diagnoses. How did this happen?Did it benefit the patients or the pharmaceutical companies and the psychiatrists?
For a psychiatrist, backed by the pharmaceutical industry, every normal variant-action is a disorder,so they went about inventing disorders and hocus-pocus drugs and went on drugging the patients left and right.
Coming to DSM 5,it's more dangerous than its predecessors. It has a tendency to over diagnose, over drugging, over labelling, the diagnostic thresholds have been lowered, inclusion of dangerous drugs,socio-cultural variations have been de-emphasized,more emphasis is given to biological models which is a fiction, not yet proven and the vulnerable population are targeted.Further no scholarly discussion was carried out while passing the DSM 5.
Overall DSM 5 is dangerous when the psychiatrists use it for treating the patients.DSM 5 needs to be opposed in its present format if the interests of the patients are to be protected from the FDA,the pharmaceutical companies and the psychiatrists.
The FDA is also hand in gloves with the DSM committee members and the clinical trial companies in all of their nefarious activities.
