Inquest outcome and next steps
Mar 2, 2023 —
2 March 2023
Dear friends,
Today we travelled to Barnet for the Inquest on Belly's death.
The Coroner found that Belly had died of natural causes (covid-19). The family accept that decision.
We lacked the medical evidence to show that Mr X transmitted the disease to her. He also took a home covid test that was negative shortly after the incident. However tests at that time were notoriously unreliable and produced false negatives. The British Transport Police did not arrange for Mr X to take another text.
It is increasingly clear that Belly was assaulted by Mr X based on the CCTV and eye-witness (Motolani Sunmola) and that Belly was not rostered to be working outside on the concourse that day, so should not have been put at risk of such an assault.
We have therefore challenged the decision of the British Transport Police not to prosecute Mr X for that (we believe, racist) assault and for their alleged sham/grossly inadequate investigation. The IOPC are investigating the same.
Hopefully the IOPC outcome will in time take us a step closer to Justice for Belly, and her family.
It is also clear that Mr X is well-connected, and has access to Establishment lawyers. His identity remains unknown but we are now closer to being able to identify him than we were. Ultimately we may go to court under the Norwich Pharmacal principle to force BTP or GTR to let us have his identity for the purposes of allowing the family to sue him for that alleged assault.
Please support the crowdfunding page so that we can pursue that Norwich Pharmacal Order.
Belly would have been 50 years of age on 26 March 2023.
Please say a prayer for her that day.
Best, Lawrence Davies
