Thank you for signing this petition about my wife, Belly. Our daughter Ingrid and I miss her desperately, but we have been touched by the kindness and good wishes sent to us from all over the world.

It was terrible what happened to Belly. She was scared by what happened to her at work and then she was so terribly ill with the virus. Some days I wake up and I forget she’s not with us, and then we start grieving all over again. And we are just one family out of thousands in that place.

In all honesty, we don’t expect a prosecution to happen because it will be too difficult to prove where Belly contracted coronavirus. The British Transport Police are investigating and that is welcome, of course, but we haven’t pursued a prosecution. If her managers had acted differently that day and called the police, as she asked, then things might be different.

Thank you for highlighting the problems that vulnerable people have – people like Belly who had a respiratory health problem – and the need for PPE. Even this week, Belly’s colleagues at Victoria didn’t have protective visors, despite them being exactly the sort of PPE which gives more protection against this awful virus.

We can’t change what happened to Belly, but we can try to ensure that her colleagues are better protected than she was. We’re working with Belly’s trade union, the TSSA, to raise the profile of safety of transport workers and I’d like to send you some asks over the coming weeks to help to protect more workers.

For now, please do share this petition with your friends and family.

Thank you,

Lusamba
