ORE LAKE SWAN UPDATE — PLEASE KEEP SPEAKING UP!

THEIR LIVES DEPEND ON OUR VOICES. TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Please continue contacting the Green Oak Township and Hamburg Township Boards and ask them to RECONSIDER AND RESCIND their resolutions supporting lethal control of the mute swans on Ore Lake.
These resolutions were passed largely because of complaints from one individual who claimed he was attacked twice by swans. Yet no photographs, medical records, incident reports, or other documentation supporting those alleged attacks have been presented to the public.
Ore Lake belongs to the entire lake community. A decision that could result in the destruction of adult swans, cygnets, nests, and eggs should not be made without meaningful public notice, documented evidence, and input from the residents who actually live with and enjoy these birds.
Many residents have said they have had NO PROBLEMS with the swans. When I recently visited Ore Lake, I observed only six swans, peacefully staying near shore while boating and other activity continued around the lake.
Education and coexistence should come before killing.
Swans are protective of their young, just as many wildlife species are. People can be educated about how to safely share the lake with them. Killing should never be the first response to a wildlife conflict that may be preventable.
🦢 THESE RESOLUTIONS CAN STILL BE RESCINDED.
Please respectfully email or call the Township officials and ask them to revisit this decision.

When contacting the Boards, please ask them to:
• Rescind their resolutions supporting lethal swan control on Ore Lake
• Require documented evidence before authorizing wildlife destruction
• Give Ore Lake residents a meaningful opportunity to be heard
• Require demonstrated community support before lethal action is considered
• Pursue education and nonlethal coexistence measures first
Silence should not be mistaken for community support. Many residents did not even know this was being considered until after the resolutions were passed.
Please keep emailing, calling, sharing, and encouraging Ore Lake residents to speak up.
Every respectful voice matters.
