HI Everyone,
This is a brief overview of how mute swans were removed from Lake Doster:
Through the Freedom of Information Act process, we were able to find out that the Lake Doster Lake Association went to the Gun Plain Township Board to have 2 swans removed from their lake. The Township in June 2023 passed Resolution NO. 2023-3 to kill swans for 5 years on Lake Doster. The Homeowner members were not properly notified about these killings taking place on their lake. The day the shooters killed the swans on the lake, no one was given any notice that they would be on the lake shooting. The kids were out of school that day and could have easily been witness to this horrific event or could have even been in harms way. This is a direct violation of the DNR procedures when having swans removed from a lake. Ironically, the HOA Board quickly quit the Board the week after the swans were killed. So, now the HOA has a resolution to kill swans on the lake and the people responsible are no longer around to face the consequences.
We are asking that each person who signed this petition to please take a couple minutes and send a quick email or call to the Gun Plain Township Board asking them to rescind their Resolution NO. 2023-3 to have swans killed on Lake Doster. The rules of notifying the HOA members was clearly not followed. Shooting on a residential lake with no notice to the public should be reason enough to rescind their resolution. These swans were docile and never bothered anyone who didn't threaten them harm. Whether you are in Michigan or out of the state or out of the country, please take a second. I know it makes a huge difference. I have seen it work in West Bloomfield MI and other municipalities. I know we can get this rescinded, but we need everyone's help. Please don't think others will do it and not do anything.
