Courage’s Law

Courage’s Law
The Issue
In 2018 I rescued a brindle pit bull terrier that had his nose caved in and had acid poured down his back, I named him Courage because I did my own digging to find the person responsible for hurting Courage and during this time I learned Courage had been walking around for a year with the burn on his back, he had been taken to get his shots and when the owner was questioned he said Courage had been taken by dog fighters and came back like this, the place gave Courage his shots and allowed him to leave without notifying anyone of the condition Courage was in. I never found out the true identity of the man who harmed Courage. Courage is now safe living the life he deserves, but what about all of the other Courage’s that are still out and still being abused? People are fighting for Animal Abuse to be a Felony when it’s already a Felony, it’s the judges handing out the easy sentences that need changed there needs to be a law that actually will make an animal abuser serve time and actually have to serve the time they are given. Courage’s Law would be a mandatory 25 year sentence, there would be no good time, no credit for time served, no parole and no using the mental illness unless there is actual proof of mental illness, and they would have to maintain a job inside the prison the entire 25 years to pay for their time in prison and any extra pay would go to the animal they harmed if it survived or a shelter to help other animals.
