Make childcare available to Iowa's children!

Make childcare available to Iowa's children!
The Issue
There is a serious childcare shortage in our great state, but the state isn't doing anything about it. The law says that we can leave our children - of ANY age - home alone, but they will not allow 15-year-olds to work in childcare. These 15-year-olds would be supervised by state-approved adults, unlike our small children if left home alone. Most importantly, allowing 15-year-olds to work in childcare could save a child's life.
The state issued an emergency proclamation last year that lowered the requirements for substitute teachers. Can they not do the same for childcare providers? Besides that, there are many benefits of allowing 15-year-olds to work close to home in state-approved safe spaces such as schools and childcare centers. They will learn a great deal about work ethic and responsibility while boosting the economy. Most importantly, allowing 15-year-olds to work in childcare could save a child's life.
I'm surely not the only Iowan who can't afford to lose their job but is unwilling to leave their small child home alone. My kids count on me to provide a roof over their heads and food on the table. I count on the state to provide safe childcare options for my children while I'm working to provide such things for them.
We need Governor Reynolds to sign an emergency public health proclamation so that Iowa's children have a safe place to go when their parents are at work. Iowa parents shouldn't have to fear for their children's wellbeing after school hours.
