Today we won another IMPORTANT VICTORY with the Commonwealth Transportation Board's approval of a name change for Jefferson Davis Highway in Arlington. Thanks to everyone who supported our petition, participated in public meetings and wrote letters to elected officials in Arlington County.
Our work is not done, though, because the name "Jefferson Davis Highway" continues to exist in other parts of the state. That means we still need to convince elected leaders in the counties of Prince William, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Fredericksburg, Richmond and Chesterfield among others to drop this deeply offensive name. Attorney General Mark Herring's advisory opinion which paved the way for a name change in Arlington is the same legal basis that can be used for changing the name in other Virginia counties.
So, lets get ready to bring more change to the state. Lets continue our winning streak. Please write or call elected representatives in the hold out counties and cities and let them know how you feel about the name.
