Many of you have asked us questions about the bookstore meeting, and why the woman recommended a BDSM book to Drew given her accusation. You aren't Drew’s parents and yet you are obviously feeling angst about this injustice. Some of your questions have been: 1) Why was she meeting with him at a bookstore in the first place? 2) Why was she pointing out a BDSM book for him to read? 3) What was the purpose of suggesting that he buy an erotic book given the circumstances? The woman testified that she and Drew went to a bookstore post event more than once. Drew’s attorney made it clear several times that it is questionable that she would even meet with Drew, especially to suggest he read an erotic BDSM book given she is claiming he sexually assaulted her only a few months before. She and Drew agreed under testimony that they were writing stories together, post incident. The book she recommended is, The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty by Anne Rice. In case you are not familiar with the book I am providing a link at the bottom of this post. The judge was given the book to view, along with a receipt dated, July 7, 2012, about 4 months after the alleged assault. The book and receipt were admitted into evidence. The woman referred to Drew as a very good writer. This is true. And, she shared a story with Drew that she had been writing about a young woman who stole a horse during medieval times. The young woman was caught and sold as a sex slave. Drew testified that she suggested the erotic book to help him with writing and editing her story. This type of story was not in Drew’s genre. I wake up in the middle of the night realizing as if for the first time-each time; that my son is in prison. And then I can’t fall back to sleep wondering how any rational professional could convict given the considerable reasonable doubt in this case. So many questions were never allowed to be answered. So much reasonable doubt was never considered. So much heartbreak…still. This is only a part of the gut wrenching injustice we all felt when the judge convicted Drew. And, the pain continues as we talk with our son who is enduring prison. He is in pain, and we are in pain. But, this is not a fantasy story. This is reality. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sleeping_Beauty_Quartet
