Free Eraina Pretty

Free Eraina Pretty
The Issue
Edit: As of April 25, 2020, Eraina Pretty has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently in the hospital.
Eraina Pretty has been in prison for 42 years. She was only 18 years old when she was convinced to take a plea deal of life in prison after she was involved in a robbery, in which her boyfriend shot & killed a store clerk. The store clerk was Pretty's former employer.
At the time of her arrest her lawyer told her she would serve 11 and a half years and then be sent to a pre-release unit. However, Pretty is currently serving life in prison at Maryland Correctional Institute for Women, just for being at the crime scene. She had no prior arrests or offenses.
She came from a family of abuse, she was also harassed by her employers. Pretty is a victim of cyclical violence and a broken system.
During her time, Eraina has taken advantage of educational programs and vocational opportunities, even earning her Bachelors degree in Sociology from Morgan State University. She speaks openly about how transformed she is after years of therapy working through the pain she carried with her from childhood abuse. She speaks openly, too, about being so wracked with guilt for her victims and hopelessness.
Eraina has been involved in service opportunities, like the Canine Partners Dog Program, training service dogs to help individuals with physical impairments, and an array of jobs, including, her current position as a clerk.
Pretty has one daughter and two grandchildren. She had been incarcerated all of her daughter's life.
It is time to bring her home. Currently her case sits on the desk of Maryland Governor Larry Hogan. Only Governor Hogan has the power to bring her home. Please sign this petition to let Governor Hogan know that it is time to #FreeEraina
