Governor Kemp: Bring Back SUN Bucks and Feed Georgia’s Kids This Summer

Governor Kemp: Bring Back SUN Bucks and Feed Georgia’s Kids This Summer
The Issue
As a parent, I’m asking a simple question: why would Georgia turn down food for hungry children?
For the second year in a row, Georgia has chosen not to participate in the federal SUN Bucks program, also known as Summer EBT. That means families who rely on school meals to feed their children during the year are left with nothing when summer arrives.
This program provides $120 per child each summer month—money that helps cover groceries when school cafeterias are closed. It’s federally funded, already tested, and proven to work.
Still, Georgia has opted out.
The result? Over a million Georgia children who could benefit are being left behind. A
nd the decision comes at a time when food banks across Georgia are already overwhelmed and families—especially Black and low-income families—are feeling the pressure hardest.
We’re calling on Governor Brian Kemp and the Georgia Department of Human Services to reverse course and join the SUN Bucks program in 2025!
Ensure every eligible child receives the summer food benefits they need!
This program isn’t about politics. It’s about children. No parent should have to wonder how they’ll feed their kids just because school is out.
