Gov. Brown: Please Do Not Veto Funds for SW Capitol Highway Project

The Issue

Governor Kate Brown has stated her intent to do a "line item veto" on $2 million approved by the Oregon Legislature for the SW Capitol Highway Project between Multnomah Village and Taylors Ferry Road.

We need to sign this petition immediately, as Gov. Brown can issue the veto any day now.

This project has been identified as a top neighborhood priority since 1996.  It would add a continuous sidewalk and protected bike lane on the east side and a multi-use path on the west side, along with updated crossings, better bus stops, and other elements.  It is supported by the local neighborhood associations.

It is bizarre that Governor Brown would choose to veto this project, out of hundreds being funded around the state.  It is also a slap in the face to the 4 legislators whose districts include this stretch of SW Capitol Highway:

  • Rep.MargaretDoherty@oregonlegislature.gov
  • Sen.GinnyBurdick@oregonlegislature.gov
  • Rep.AnnLininger@oregonlegislature.gov
  • Sen.RichardDevlin@oregonlegislature.gov
