WHAT YOU CAN DO:
Most ordinances are PREVENTATIVE. This means even if you live in a city without a pet store you should ask for a preventative ordinance so that a pet store selling dogs and cats cannot open.
Email your city council members! Find your cities official .gov website and contact the council members via email or phone.
Email your county commissioners! Find your county’s official website and contact the county commissioners via email or phone.
What do I say?
Simply tell elected officials about the issue of puppy mills and how this is an issue you would like to see action on. If you don’t have a pet store in your city, tell them most ordinances are preventative so a store never opens and the problem never starts. If you do have a pet store, provide Bailingoutbenji.com sources of puppy mills and ask for action!
Ordinances are simply a local law. Sample ordinances can be found here:
https://resources.bestfriends.org/article/states-humane-pet-sales-laws#Indiana
simply click on the city/county you would like to see the ordinance for. It is helpful to provide these to council members and commissioners
