With skyrocketing cases and rapidly filling hospital beds, Arizona must take urgent action to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Governor Ducey has admitted that there is a need to “go slower” but has refused to take any action, even in the face of one of the highest growth rates of the virus in the country.

While other governors have temporarily shut down their bars - most recently Republican Governor Greg Abbott of Texas - bars in Arizona remain open, with patrons ignoring social distancing and flouting face covering orders. It’s not just a case of a few “bad actors” as Ducey claims. People go to bars to socialize and to drink, creating a perfect environment for the virus to spread.
