Today Governor Kemp ordered a shelter in place for all of Georgia.
THANK YOU!
The order is to be signed 4/2, go into effect 4/3, and run through 4/13.
The exact terms are not yet known - this is critical. We must keep a close eye on the details, as loose exemptions have been allowed in other states.
Though many of us likely hoped for a longer shutdown, in some ways a 10 day trial is a good thing. It would be a welcome miracle if our shelter in place was over by 4/13, as it would indicate we were on the other side of the peak. Realistically, I anticipate this time frame will be extended.
Thus, we will have an opportunity to respond, voice our concerns, and shore up weaknesses in the first set of terms, if there are any. I will follow up with details of the GA shelter in place order as soon as they are available. Importantly, the Governor did state that the rules of the shutdown will be enforceable. Of course, we hope that is not necessary, as it would mean that we are all doing our part as individuals to save lives.
Celebrate today's win. Please keep staying physically distant from one another (but socially connected). Please keep staying home. Please keep reminding those who are not doing so to please do so. This is temporary. We can do this.
We are all safer Georgians today because of you. Thank you is not enough.
Gratefully,
Akshat
