Experts say FSO Nabarima is stable?
News correspondence from the Minister of Energy and Energy Industries indicated that the expert team sent to inspect the FSO have reported that the vessel is "upright and stable" and that the risk of leakage is "minimal".
Nevertheless, the experts recommend that the onboard oil be transferred to another vessel, urging the use of a larger vessel than the Icaro, which can only store and transport ~1/4 of the 1.3 billion barrels on the Nabarima. The use of a vessel with a larger storage capacity would reduce the risks associated with transfer by reducing the number of transfers necessary. The official report has yet to be released for review.
The Government of Trinidad and Tobago will also be submitting a request for a follow-up visit in one months time.
