Banning of lewd and violent musical lyrics on the airwaves and in public transport in SVG

The Issue

In recent years, we have seen an upsurge in violent behaviour exhibited by students in our schools and elsewhere.

Many of our young people gravitate to music promoting violence and illicit sexual behaviour.

This is counterproductive to our efforts to promote a peaceful society and a society promoting respect for the dignity of men and women.

Our radio stations, our media, our entertainers, Mini-bus operators and our government must step in to stop the promotion of music which engenders a culture of violence.

Some studies conducted in Jamaica, have already shown a link between violent and illicit sexual behavior in youth and the music. See - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3354427/

Jamaica has already moved to ban the airing of such lyrical content on their airwaves. See - http://www.theguardian.com/music/2009/feb/24/jamaica-bans-sex-violence-airwaves

We cannot afford to sit back and allow this type of thing to go unnoticed and unrestricted. Let's sign.

We need legislation no later than in the coming months (now in 2016), to deal with this issue. Let's show strength by reaching at least 1,000 signatures.
