Stop OBS from building campus on Coney Island

Stop OBS from building campus on Coney Island

The Issue

Outward Bound Singapore has recently announced that they will commence the construction of a new campus on Coney Island. There has been a number of concerns about what this will mean to the wildlife and nature on the island.

As responsible Singaporeans, we want to stand against the building of the campus. We understand that there is a need for outdoor activities for our youth. However, there is no shortage of outdoor facilities in Singapore that OBS can use. It is then paramount that we do not focus on building new campuses but to focus resources on improving and renovating the existing campsites with these new obstacle courses OBS wants to implement.

Should we use up more land that is filled with nature, the more we hurt our earth and push out the wildlife that also call this country their home. Even if we were to ignore empathy towards the wildlife, it is undeniable that this construction will lead to more human to wild encounters, possibly leading to incidents like the boar attacks we saw earlier this year. Even if we were to ignore animal wellbeing, this will possibly lead to more unsafe camps for our students.
