In a landmark judgement today, the Honourable Supreme Court upheld EWS quota, which called for 10% reservation to people belonging to the economically weaker sections.
The matter was heard by a 5-judge bench comprising Chief Justice of India UU Lalit, Justices Dinesh Maheshwari, S Ravindra Bhat, Bela M Trivedi and JB Pardiwala who held hearing for seven days.
Justice Trivedi says that there is a need to revisit the reservation policy and it should have a time span. Justice Pardiwala, while holding the amendment valid, observed that reservation cannot go on indefinitely and agreed with Justice Trivedi on a need to re-examine the reservation policy.
This is a major win for all of you, who have been with me and this petition, since 2016. A major first step, towards the amendment of the ancient reservation policy, which accounted for more harm, than good, in the social justice system.
As Justice Pardiwala said, Reservation cannot go on forever.
