The Issue

We the Humans of Beacon Hill face daily discrimination and stigmatization hatred and displacement and repeat gross violations of our human rights. Due to the fact we unfortunately need to safe shelter, just like everyone else, except for us it’s not at home it’s in a tent and will be  over the course of the coming winter months. It is not our fault nor anyone’s the Covid pandemic has stifled shelters and services but we feel the lack of support s like a double edged sword. We are cut by the cuts and by the misunderstanding of the general public  therefore it’s anger and reactionary protectionism.  There is a trend that has been increasing over the last few months violence, threats, police intimidation  abuses and violations of human rights and hate crimes. This has fuelled increasing tensions between the housed and unhoused. British Colombians are taking sides against one another. The fact is that public health is something the entire public must address and marginalization is not part of the solution and cannot be, as the topic of  interest has been for people to express vigorously there anger over having to look at the tents and the people who live in them we call campers ( homeless and usually afraid for there own safety in the tents) This is no way for any Canadian citizen to have to exist. We are sliding into very dangerous territory when we cannot stop ourselves from dividing over moral no brainers in the past. Our fundamental principles adhere to justice peace and human rights as Canadians this is what we pride ourselves in. Unfortunately we are losing that principle and replacing it with a principle of entitlement and classism. We must begin to return to our true principles by implementing and adhering to The UN National Protocol for encampments that clearly states; Displacement of any encampment or its residence without adequate housing available and having been offered is a gross violation of human rights under International treaties which Canada is a signatory of and that housing is a human right. Canada must live up to its responsibilities by ensuring the fair and humane treatment of marginalized and poverty stricken citizens in Canada. We protect human rights not violate them.We petition our Government s at all levels to START ZONING AND BUILDING ADEQUATE HOUSING IN THE WAY OF MODULAR HOMES NOW! ALLOW THE CAMPERS SHOWERS WASHROOMS AND WASHING STATIONS and DISPOSAL BINS. We are truly all in this together let’s make our governments listen.GET THE CAMPERS OUT OF THE PARK BUILD IMMEDIATE MODULAR HOUSING UNITS NOW!!!!
