Thousands of Belizeans are experiencing unusually high electric bills. Initially, the explanation was that more people were at home all day during the national lockdown, resulting in increased electric consumption.

The lockdown ended in June, and electric bills have actually continued to rise - instead of reducing, though persons are at home much less.

An investigation, and not an explanation, is now required. The Government of Belize via the Ministry of Public Utilities should launch an investigation immediately.
