Government Must Honor Our Housing Right!

The Issue

As a single mother of three, I am intimately familiar with the struggles faced by countless individuals and families across our nation. It is disheartening to witness the growing number of people left homeless and struggling to make ends meet due to exorbitant housing costs. We, the undersigned, demand that our government take immediate action to honor our housing rights and ensure that every human being has access to safe and affordable housing.

It is an undeniable fact that homelessness is a pressing issue in our society. According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, there were approximately 567,715 people experiencing homelessness on any given night in January 2019. This figure represents a significant increase from previous years, highlighting the urgent need for change.

The current system perpetuates a cycle of poverty where individuals are forced into precarious living situations or burdened with excessive rent payments. The cost of living continues to rise while wages remain stagnant for many hardworking Americans. This leaves us trapped in a never-ending struggle just to keep a roof over our heads.

We call upon our government representatives to address this crisis by implementing one or both of the following solutions:

1. Increase Minimum Wage: The federal minimum wage has remained at $7.25 per hour since 2009, failing to keep up with inflation and rising costs of living across the country. By raising the minimum wage significantly, we can provide individuals and families with greater financial stability and reduce their reliance on public assistance programs.

2. Drastically Lower Rent Prices: Housing costs have skyrocketed in recent years, making it nearly impossible for low-income individuals and families to afford decent accommodation without sacrificing other basic necessities such as food or healthcare. We urge policymakers at all levels of government - local, state, and federal -to implement measures that will effectively lower rent prices so that they align more closely with income levels.

It is crucial for our government to acknowledge that housing is a fundamental human right. We should not be treated as mere pawns in a business play, where profit margins take precedence over the well-being of our citizens. The United States government must prioritize the needs of its people and work towards creating an equitable society.

We understand that these changes will require careful consideration and planning. However, we firmly believe that it is within our government's power to enact meaningful reforms that will alleviate the burden on struggling individuals and families.

Join us in demanding action from our elected officials! Sign this petition to show your support for affordable housing and fair wages. Together, we can create a society where every person has access to safe, secure, and affordable housing - because no one should be left homeless or forced into financial ruin due to circumstances beyond their control.
