Major Dog Welfare Crisis

2.1m people collected a new pet in lockdown and another 1.8m are planning to get a new pet (www.pfma.org.uk This dramatic increase post first lock down has now caused a major animal welfare crisis. On the well known unregulated pets4homes  website a total of 466,601 dogs have been advertised on the site so far, with average prices increasing by 131%. This situation has caused two major catastrophes:

Theft of Animals and Abuse of Animals

The value of a pet has increased (by breeders), making them attractive to the unscrupulous thieves; reports of mother and puppies being stolen, dogs with their necks cut open to remove their tags and older dogs used for breeding farms and then slaughtered have all been reported.

Additionally other people have decided to breed and breed and breed with no concern to the welfare of the animal.

Some people after spending long days with their puppies have now returned to work leaving them alone causing mental distress and/or have abandoned then or handed them into rescue centres. It has been reported that some people have even requested that the vet put them down as they are 'excitable as a pup'.

This petition is for our government to step in and see the value of our loving animals and how they must be protected and treated.

I would like an immediate lockdown on breeders - all breeders should not be breeding at the moment. There are available animals in rescue centres for those that are true animal lovers and even hypoallergenic ones.

There should be an immediate shut down on the astronomical fees being charged.

There should be immediate support funding given to animal welfare organisations and charities.

There should be surveillance and legal charges placed on any animal cruelty whether that be mental or physical.

I can say much more what should happen but please do this asap! It is an emergency.
