Anyone who has a company pension needs to know this. Although you have advised your company who you want to leave monies on your death to it is actually at the DISCRETION of the Trustees of the pension to decide who will receive your money. It doesn’t matter what you say on the form because Trustees can and do give your pension money to whoever they decide should have it, not who you want to have it! The pension company do not have to tell anyone who the monies are paid to or why the person named will NOT receive the monies that you want them to have. This leaves open the possibility of fraud and offers no protection for your loved ones.

Gail and I went to Andrew Lower MP’s surgery to ask for his help to get the word DISCRETIONARY taken out of the expression of wishes form, that is the form you sign to advise your Company who you want to receive your money. Andrew’s office will speak with the Treasury about this and look into an Early Day Motion so this can be discussed in Parliament. We do not know which route this petition will go down but Gail DOES need more signatures.
