Our Forests, Our Future, and Posterity Picket, Accra, July 27 and 28. Join Us!

Greetings.
We hope this message finds you well and committed to the cause of environmental conservation and sustainable development in Ghana. We are writing to bring your attention to the peaceful picketing that requires our collective action.
In November 2022, a new legal instrument, L.I. 2462, known as the 'Environmental Protection (Mining in Forest Reserves) Regulations,' was discreetly passed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the government. This action remained unknown to civil society until March 2023, much to our dismay.
We strongly object to several provisions within L.I. 2462, particularly those related to the issuance of permits for mining in forest reserves. As staunch advocates for the sustainable management and conservation of our environment, we believe it is our duty to protect the forests for current and future generations.
Therefore, we call upon all concerned individuals and organizations dedicated to safeguarding our natural resources to join us in a peaceful 2-day picketing activity. The picket aims to achieve the following objectives:
1. Register Our Protest and Seek Redress: We demand an immediate revocation of L.I. 2462 and will express our dissatisfaction with the clandestine manner in which it was passed.

2. Halt Mining Licenses in Forest Areas and Strengthen Monitoring: We urge the authorities to pause the issuance of mining licenses in forest areas and implement robust monitoring mechanisms to prevent further environmental degradation.

3. Enforce Stronger Measures to Protect Existing Forests: We advocate for the implementation of stringent measures to secure and conserve our existing forests for the well-being of current and future generations. 

The picketing takes place in Accra from 9am - 5pm. Dates and Locations;
