Finally the government's action on getting people off the rivers is starting to work. Some of the young illegal miners have taken advantage and are leaving the rivers. We have even started seeing some, like river #Ankobra begin to see a change at high tide and along the path where it enters the sea in Ankobra near Axim in the Western Region.
We do know that for many of the youth there are fewer alternatives. That is why we are launching the Galamsey Action Group Alternative Livelihoods Program fundraiser, or GAG Ghana Alternative Livelihoods Program on GoFundme.
Our Group, The Galamsey Action Group is incorporated as a Non Profit in Canada. ID 1295888-1, and is made up of Ghanaians at home and abroad concerned about the environmental degradation and destruction of waterbodies going on at home. The program aims to secure arable land to engage the youth in farming and to create cottage industries around these to ensure that there is a ready market for their produce once ready.
Please consider donating. You will be providing a sustainable alternative to a young person while also saving the environment. I hope we can count on you. And oh, please share as well.
Thanks again
