These past few days have been good. The Government of Ghana seems suddenly to be interested in finding out for themselves the Real State of some rivers in Ghana. This might be their way of moving from hearsay to seeing for themselves. Others say it is a show to get the EU, which we hear has threatened to ban cocoa imports from Ghana due to the high level of mercury pollution in Ghanaian rivers and on land,
off their backs.
Either way, at least getting the destruction that these irresponsible mining acts have caused, which has resulted in several deaths,
ongoing disease and debilitation and thrown entire communities off their livelihoods back in the news can only be a good thing in a country that had gotten used to seeing yellow rivers and desecrated forests.
For us at Galamsey Action Group however, nothing less than a full implementation of the demands listed in this petition:
will convince us that the government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is genuinely interested in ACTUALLY fighting the Galamsey and irresponsible mining menace in Ghana.
