Tone-deaf MTA Leadership and Governor
Good morning,
I am sorry for the delay in writing you. I was out on vacation last week and could not check my emails.
Upon my return, I found the sad tone-deaf mail of the updated MTA telecommute policy, which continues to passive-aggressively abuse those workers who have shown their ability to work entirely remotely over the past few years, supporting those who could not due to the nature of their jobs do so. (Conductors, Engineers, Track workers, etc.)
They state:
"For the relatively small group of office-based staff who work hard to support our frontline colleagues, we’ve also heard from you about your desire for more flexible workplace initiatives and we want to be responsive to your needs."
They are implementing a "pilot" of one day a week remote for six months...The entire MTA and all NYS workers were telecommuting during covid, not just the so-called "Small number" of MTA workers.
They say if that goes well, they may keep it AS IS or up it to two days a week. That's not what we want.
If you continue down this path, you will continue to experience a brain drain of NYS's finest workers. It would help if you reinstated a flexible work schedule based on the nature of the employee's work. This INCLUDES Union Office workers!
"This helps us ensure that we are supporting our operating teams, our colleagues, and our customers by being available and accessible at our official workplaces for the majority of the work week."
We have done so remotely for over two years without any hardship to the operating agencies and improved our quality of life as such a "small group" should not be an issue to continue doing so.
MTA and New York state workers, please let your voices be heard by sharing this petition with your coworkers, the local News, and politicians to stop this abusive behavior of punishing and vilifying your workers because you hold a different position and continue to hold on to antiquated work policies.
