Update: Environmental Advocacy Paused for Elder Justice.

Dear Petition Supporters:

Thank you for standing with me in the fight to stop illegal burning and protect Georgians from toxic chemicals.

Unfortunately, there is no clear timeline for returning to full environmental advocacy.  After I reported an individual for environmental crimes, retaliatory violence escalated against my family, placing my elderly, disabled mother in direct danger. What began as valid complaints about illegal burning and harmful pollutants grew into targeted harassment—including explosives thrown at our home—and systemic failures that left my family without protection.

Elder abuse and elder violence are not isolated “local” issues. They constitute a national human rights and public safety crisis that starts local. Georgia ranks among the bottom five states to age in place, with elder abuse and elder violence affecting all 159 counties. In 2022 alone, assault injuries to older adults cost the U.S. $33 BILLION, according to the CDC.

As such, I’ve shifted my focus to my mother’s safety and the pursuit of justice.  #Justice4DaisyAlford is now Georgia’s largest elder justice petition.  It is entirely grassroots-powered and backed by 2,500+ supporters demanding justice and accountability, congressional hearings, and federal oversight.

For me, environmental advocacy is not ending, but it remains on pause while I fight for elder justice. Elderly and disabled individuals deserve to live in peace, safety, and dignity in America — no matter the ZIP code.

We are united in the grassroots movement to ensure that elder justice is upheld as a human rights mandate, that aging in place becomes safe rather than perilous, and that elder and disability rights are finally treated as non-negotiable in Georgia and across America.
