Expose the Negligence: Hold U.S. EPA and Georgia EPD Accountable for Carcinogenic Chemical Exposure

Petition Update:

Despite the responsibilities of the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to mitigate exposure to carcinogenic chemicals, neither agency mandates the testing of accelerants. If you witness or suspect someone using accelerants to burn trees or vegetation nearby, understand that these well-funded environmental protection agencies will not act to prevent such hazardous practices.

Self-Advocacy and Health Hazards: If you are exposed to toxic chemicals, including accelerants, take charge of your health. Educate yourself on the associated health hazards, meticulously track any adverse health effects, and discuss these with your medical providers. Our elderly are particularly vulnerable to toxic air pollution. It's crucial that we step up to protect them and other vulnerable populations, as local, state and federal governments have failed in this regard.

Legal Recourse: Georgia residents, you can file a police report as the use of accelerants to burn trees and vegetation is strictly prohibited and can be considered arson. Even if law enforcement doesn’t act, it’s your right to document these concerns officially.  You may also wish to consult with an attorney.

Systemic Change: We are fighting to reform a deeply flawed system in Georgia plagued by environmental enforcement failures. We continue to urge Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock to call for Congressional Hearings to spotlight these issues, as they currently escape the radar of the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.  Governor Brian Kemp refuses to take any action, but we remain steadfast in our advocacy to ensure equal environmental protections for all Georgia residents.
