In January, the Winter Harvest Festival, called Bhogali Bihu in Assam, Pongal in South India and Lohri, in Punjab is celebrated annually with great joy - dancing, singing folk songs, feasting and offering thanks to Surya - the Sun God - throughout India. Makar Sankranti - January 14 - observed a day after Lohri - January 13 - marks the end of the winter solstice and beginning of the summer – warmer and longer days.
In this time of festivities and prayers, let each one of us bring a welcome change within ourselves, by pledging to give the gift of love - Gandhi’s synonym for nonviolence - to future generations. We therefore request you, dear signatories, to follow our Call for Action petition #’s.
For instance, to follow No. 8 #SingForPeace – Please sing a Peace Song, such as, We Shall Overcome, in support of The Global Initiative (Satyagraha) #ChooseNonviolentDefence and email us the video recording on: cpcr@shantisahyog.org

We have crossed 1385+ signatures on our petition. Please help us collect 50,000 signatures for our Petition: #ChooseNonviolentDefence to present to the UN, in its 75th anniversary year. Please motivate your friends and family to sign the Petition – as you have done – so we can together strive towards a World Beyond War, violence and terrorism by learning more about nonviolence and implementing it in our daily lives. Gandhi rightly affirms:
“You may never know what results come of your actions, but if you do nothing, there will be no results.”
