Mahatma Gandhi is well known for his fasts unto death for just social and political causes. His last fast was a fast for communal harmony which began on January 13 1948 and ended on January 18, 1948. It lasted for 6 days. He broke his fast when a ‘Peace Pledge’ was presented to him, signed by leaders of different communities, assuring him that peace would be restored and kept. This was in the fitness of things as throughout his life, Gandhi worked tirelessly for the cause of peace and communal harmony.
Following Gandhi, on this day i.e. 18th of January let us pledge to observe a Fruit Fast on our birthdays as our personal protest against war, violence and communal tension #FruitBirthdayForPeace
If you fast on your birthday, dear signatory, please post it in your social media handles by following our #s and tag Shanti Sahyog Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution. Your experience will be featured in our social media handles which will encourage our followers to do the same. Also motivate your fellow friends and followers to do the same.
As requested in our last update, share this initiative on social media, speak to people about it, raise awareness about Nonviolence and Nonviolent Defence #Spreadtheword
Please continue supporting us and help make this a global movement!
