Albert Hofmann’s Botanical Legacy vs. The Digital Clearcut

Dear supporters,
When we look at the current momentum of our petition, we face a bitter mathematical truth: at our current sluggish pace of 30 signatures per week, we wouldn't hit the one-million mark until the year 2665. But let’s face reality: if tech giants like Google continue to create irreversible facts at this speed—bulldozing pristine forests for server farms and burying vital ecosystems under concrete—this planet will be an uninhabitable, Mars-like desert long before we ever reach 2665. We do not have centuries. We must act now.
My late mentor, Dr. Albert Hofmann, was known to the world as a brilliant chemist—voted the greatest living genius by The Daily Telegraph in 2007. Yet in his heart, as he once confided in me, he was never a man of the lab. He would have much preferred to dedicate his life to botany and natural anthroposophy, had his strict father's unyielding verdict not forced him into the field of chemistry.
Throughout his entire life, he remained deeply connected to the soul of the plant world. He possessed a keen, almost prophetic biological intuition. When he investigated the seeds of the Heavenly Blue Morning Glory (Ipomoea tricolor), he recognized that nature had already prepared the molecular secrets of LSD within those blue blossoms—an intricate symbiosis of species that modern science was only recently able to fully prove.
Albert was not a man of wrath. Yet on his 100th birthday, when I presented him with 100 of his beloved Baccara roses, I heard an unmistakable, almost aggressive undertone of anger in his voice. He issued a sharp warning against our “thoughtless, technology-driven material development.” He foresaw precisely what is happening today in Muhos, Finland: the sterile logic of data centers and the boundless appetite for AI infrastructure simply erasing living nature.
If we can connect billions of people at the touch of a button, then we must use this technology to protect nature instead of destroying it. Implementing a global "Dark by Default" standard for Google services is not an infringement on personal freedom; it is a simple, systemic code-level change that instantly saves terawatt-hours of energy and virtually rescues billions of trees.
Please actively share this petition within your networks, environmental forums, and on social media. Let’s not wait for the distant future—let’s force Google to face its radical accountability in the here and now!
