Google & Apple, this tragic death is as much on you as you have the power to have helped avoid it, as it is on Emma Kent.

The Ballarat County Court heard this week of a young driver who was distracted for 10 seconds trying to connect her mobile phone bluetooth to her car for music when she hit and killed a cyclist in Macedon. Emma Kent, 24, tearfully pleaded guilty on Wednesday to dangerous driving causing death.

A 10 sec distraction that caused an innocent man to be killed. A distraction that is due to everyone's addition to their mobile devices powered by Google and Apple. A distraction that would have been completely avoided had she enabled "Do not Disturb While Driving.

But almost no one enables that features. Partly because the vast majority of people don't know of the feature, but mostly because our addiction to these devices prevents us from using it at all.

Google & Apple, this man's death is as much your responsibility as it is this poor young driver, whom through addiction to your devices, will now suffer with this for the rest of her life, and both families will suffer for decades to come. And it could have been avoided!
