Today, the driver who hit Graham at 80kph in her 4 wheel drive while distracted using her mobile phone, rendering him a paraplegic and suffering from horrendous injuries, and now a lifetime of suffering, financial burden and pain ahead of him and his family, was sentenced in the QLD District Court in Brisbane. The sentence? 3 years loss of her driver's license. No fine. No jail sentence to serve, albeit a 2.5 year jail sentence was included but immediately suspended. How is this ever going to send a signal to drivers that being distracted because of illegal mobile phone use causes death and injuries, to them, their loved ones and innocent bystanders like Graham who was out cycling. Tell us what you think? Our addiction to mobile phones means that we cannot put them down. That we do not enable the new feature that renders them useless while driving. Google and Apple can help solve this problem of addiction that we have to their devices. An addiction they created! It's easy, simple and quick for them to do. This petition is aimed at providing consumer pressure on these two big companies to do the right thing. The driver and her family are also suffering. Her remorse clear. She will have to live with the pain every day knowing what she did to Graham and his family. She was also lucky that none of her 4 children in the car were also injured or killed during the accident and momentary lapse of attention behind the wheel. She suffers from an addiction. The same addiction millions of people around the world suffer from who own a Google or Apple powered mobile device. My hope is that she finds the strength to come forward and back this petition publicly too, to help encourage other drivers to put their devices down while driving. Klaus
