El Festival de San Sebastián, junto a Filmoteca Vasca y Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, manifestamos nuestro apoyo a las reivindicaciones de las trabajadoras y los trabajadores de Cinemateca Brasileira en su denuncia del abandono de la institución por parte del gobierno federal brasileño en los últimos años.

El incendio, el 29 de julio de 2021, de las instalaciones de Cinemateca Brasileira en Vila Leopoldina (São Paulo) ha vuelto a poner de manifiesto el grave peligro que corre el patrimonio cinematográfico y cultural que custodia la institución, uno de los más importantes de Latinoamérica. Así lo vienen denunciando sus trabajadoras y trabajadores desde hace más de un año, después de asistir al cierre de la institución y perder sus empleos tras meses de impagos y sin indemnización alguna. A lo largo de los últimos meses, las principales instituciones y asociaciones profesionales internacionales vinculadas con la preservación y estudio del patrimonio cinematográfico (FIAF, CLAIM, AMIA, CCAAA) se han sumado a la denuncia, exigiendo la reapertura de Cinemateca Brasileira, la readmisión de la plantilla y la reanudación de sus actividades para preservar, antes de que sea demasiado tarde, unas colecciones de valor incalculable.

Mediante esta declaración, los y las abajo firmantes nos adherimos a estas demandas y subrayamos el firme compromiso de los festivales de cine internacionales con la preservación y difusión del patrimonio cinematográfico internacional y con las instituciones y el personal especializado que lo hacen posible. El peligro que corre el patrimonio cinematográfico brasileño no es un problema local, sino una amenaza a la cultura cinematográfica en su conjunto: solo desde la colaboración y la solidaridad internacional entre festivales, filmotecas e instituciones académicas se podrá seguir construyendo el presente y el futuro del cine.

[ENG] The San Sebastian Festival, together with the Filmoteca Vasca and the Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, declare our support of the demands of workers at the Cinemateca Brasileira in their denunciation of the abandonment suffered by the institution at the hands of the Brazilian federal government in recent years.

The fire of 29 July 2021 that hit the Cinemateca Brasileira facilities in Vila Leopoldina (São Paulo) has once again highlighted the serious danger hanging over the cinematic and cultural heritage safeguarded at the institution, one of the most important in Latin America. These are facts denounced by its workers for more than a year, following closure of the institution and the loss of their jobs after months of working without pay and having received no compensation whatsoever. Over these months, the leading international professional institutions and associations linked to the preservation and study of cinematic heritage (FIAF, CLAIM, AMIA, CCAAA) have added their names to the denunciation, demanding that the Cinemateca Brasileira be reopened, that the staff be reinstated and that its activities be recommenced to preserve collections of an incalculable value, before it is too late. 

By means of this statement we, the undersigned, join these demands and underline the solid commitment of international film festivals to the preservation and diffusion of international cinematic heritage and to the institutions and specialised staff who make it possible. The danger represented for Brazilian cinematic culture is not a local problem, but a threat to cinematic culture as a whole: only by means of international collaboration and solidarity between festivals, film archives and academic institutions can we continue to build the present and future of the cinema.

[EUS] Donostia Zinemaldiak, Euskadiko Filmategiarekin eta Elías Querejeta Zine Eskolarekin batera, Cinemateca Brasileirako langileen aldarrikapenak –zehazki, azken urteotan Brasilgo gobernu federalak erakunde hori abandonatu duelako salaketak– babesten ditugula adierazi nahi dugu.

2021eko uztailaren 29an Cinemateca Brasileirak Vila Leopoldinan (São Paulo) dituen instalazioek pairatutako suteak agerian utzi du, berriz ere, erakundeak zaintzen duen zinema- eta kultura-ondarea –Latinoamerikako garrantzitsuenetako bat– arrisku larrian dagoela. Hori salatzen daramate langileek urtebetetik gora, erakundea itxi eta hainbat hilabetez soldatarik kobratu gabe –eta, halaber, inolako kalte-ordainik gabe– enpleguak galdu zituztenez geroztik. Azken hilabeteotan zehar, ondare zinematografikoaren zainketa eta azterketarekin lotutako nazioarteko erakunde eta lanbide-elkarte nagusiek (FIAF, CLAIM, AMIA, CCAAA) bat egin dute salaketarekin; hala, Cinemateca Brasileira berriro irekitzeko, plantilla berriz kontratatzeko eta filmotekaren jarduerei berrekiteko eskatu dute, balio kalkulaezina duten bildumak babeste aldera, beranduegi izan baino lehen.

Adierazpen horren bidez, behean sinatzen dugunek bat egiten dugu eskaera horiekin, eta nazioarteko zinema-jaialdiek nazioarteko ondare zinematografikoa babestu eta zabaltzeko konpromiso irmoa azpimarratu nahi dugu, baita zeregin hori ahalbidetzen duten erakunde eta langile espezializatuen aldeko konpromisoa ere. Brasilgo ondare zinematografikoak duen arriskua ez da tokian tokiko arazoa; aitzitik, kultura zinematografiko globala larriki kolokan jartzea dakar: zinema-jaialdi, filmoteka eta erakunde akademikoen arteko nazioarteko lankidetza eta elkartasunetik soilik jarraitu ahal izango da zinemaren oraina eta etorkizuna eratzen.
