As signatories of this petition, we confirm our support for a safe, traffic free route between Wotton-under-Edge, Charfield and Kingswood to benefit the health, livelihoods and enjoyment of residents and visitors.
We believe there is a strong case for new cycling and walking infrastructure with safe and segregated routes connecting the three communities and we believe it would also bring improved accessibility to public transport (with access to Charfield Station, reopening planned for 2024), to local sites of employment (including Renishaw New Mills), education (including Katharine Lady Berkeley’s School), leisure and recreation (including Wotton Community Parc).
A shared use Greenway path will help to reduce traffic congestion and carbon emissions, improve health and wellbeing and enable safer journeys for walkers and cyclists.
We note that the Wotton Charfield and Kingswood Greenway is already referenced in the Gloucestershire Local Transport Plan (as Priority Local Scheme SD 30), in the Stroud District Local Plan Review and the South Gloucestershire Cycle Strategy.
We call on Gloucestershire County Council and South Gloucestershire Council as the local Highways Authorities to support materially and practically the creation of the Wotton, Charfield and Kingswood Greenway.
