A Call to Sony PlayStation, Microsoft / Xbox, Nintendo, Game Publishers, and the Gaming Industry
We, the undersigned, stand together to protect the future of physical gaming and the rights of consumers worldwide.
Digital gaming has its place. It offers convenience, instant downloads, and easy access. But digital should be an option—not the only option.
Millions of gamers still choose physical media because it provides benefits that digital purchases cannot always guarantee:
True consumer choice between physical and digital purchases.
The ability to own, collect, display, and preserve games.
The option to play many games without relying on constant internet access.
The ability to buy, lend, trade, or resell physical games where permitted by law.
Protection against games being removed from digital storefronts or becoming inaccessible due to licensing changes or server closures.
Better accessibility for gamers with slow, unreliable, or expensive internet connections.
We are deeply concerned by the industry's increasing move toward an all-digital future. While innovation is welcome, removing physical media takes away an important choice from players and risks the long-term preservation of gaming history.
We call upon Sony PlayStation, Microsoft Xbox, Nintendo, and all gaming publishers, and developers to:
Continue producing physical editions of games whenever possible.
Continue supporting disc-based consoles and physical media.
Preserve consumer choice by offering both physical and digital formats.
Design games so that, where technically feasible, they can be played without requiring a constant internet connection.
Support long-term access to legally purchased games and help preserve gaming for future generations.
Listen to the voices of the global gaming community before making decisions that permanently reduce consumer choice.
This petition is not against digital gaming.
It is for choice.
It is for ownership.
It is for game preservation.
It is for future generations of gamers.
We ask the gaming industry to remember that players come from every country, every age group, and every circumstance. Not everyone has fast internet.
