Conduct a public hearing into the ouster of the Animal Lovers' League as operator of the City animal shelter

The Issue

On December 2, 2014 the City of Glen Cove issued a Notice to Quit to the current administrators and Board of the Animal Lovers' League of Glen Cove (ALL). In the Notice, the City elected to terminate its license to allow ALL to continue to run the Shelter at 40 Shore Road.

The City has failed to provide any tangible evidence or credible reason for this action nor has it shown the extant ALL Board and administration to be inept, incapable or unable to discharge its duties to run this shelter, as it has successfully for years

Further, the City has taken this rash action while refusing to reveal the names of  the group (described as "Cove Animal Rescue" at Tuesday night's City Council meeting) despite the fact that if they are a legitimate 501(c)(3),  that information should be public knowledge. Likewise, their competency to undertake the welfare and care of the shelter animals should be proven.   The  City has made unsubstantiated comments about the welfare of the animals in the shelter at this time and it has unfairly cast aspersions about the honesty and integrity of the Shelter's current administration.  The people of Glen Cove and those who have supported the Shelter for all these years deserve better. They deserve to know why the extant administration is being evicted, specific details about who the City plans to install in their stead and what plans the City has for the animals and the Shelter going forward.  We the undersigned, demand that prior to Dec.31st, 2014, The Mayor and the City Attorney hold a public hearing on this matter at which the City states its case, with proof and documentation; at which the current ALL administration is given a chance for rebuttal and at which the citizens of Glen Cove are given a chance to make known their thoughts and their desires.
