So the petition to save Glastonbury's Boots has achieve phenomenal support - it's now at 920 signatories which is more than 10% of Glastonbury's population of 8000 - and I'm thankful to everyone that supported this petition this far. I've written to Boots media office but as you'd imagine - they haven't responded - and I was just about to go into overdrive with a media campaign to challenge them. I friended the CEO of Boots on linkedin for direct access and a way to debate what is happening. But..... something serious has happened to potentially stop this initiative dead in its tracks and I'm now at a loss as what to do next: A week or so ago the landlord of the space that Boots leased that space from, gave the lease over to the long-time comic shop in Glastonbury - The Comic Store. So there's a legal bind on the lease that means Boots cannot retain the space as The Comic Store moves into the space on 1st December. If anyone has any ideas concerning the high level of support gained for this petition, please DM me but the conflict is that a local business now has that space and though the pressure is on against continuity for Boots (and some people want it to go as it's primarily allopathic and admittedly now a multi-national corporate outfit) it now cannot. So the issue is split down the middle and of course The Comic Store in the space is a very good thing... (and good luck to the Owner - and please anyone that's signed be kind and don't harass them on any level) - but a division in intent has potentially stopped the initiative to retain the pharmacy. Obviously a real local business should be supported - but somehow, in late capitalist UK Britain, somehow the outcome is now a very difficult issue to resolve.
