No. 2 dry dock (the middle one) at Govan Graving Docks opened on 13th October 1886. That's 130 years ago this Thursday!
The dock is 575ft (175m) long. At 417 feet tall Glasgow Science Centre tower (the tallest building in Glasgow), if it was lying flat could easily fit inside this dock with plenty room to spare.
It is the fourth-largest existing dry dock on the Clyde after Inchgreen Dry Dock in Greenock, the adjacent No. 3 dock at Govan and the (still operational) Garvel dry dock at Greenock. When it was built it was the largest dry dock in Britain.
