With the council election only two days away, Allan Young the Green Party candidate for Govan, is still the only candidate to have backed the campaign to create a maritime park at Govan Graving Docks and stop an expensive housing development going ahead.
CDPI and the maritime park campaign are not taking a party political stance and remain apolitical in a wider context but we strongly encourage those in Govan who want to see the docks saved to cast their first preference vote for Allan Young.
Allan has fought a very positive campaign on local matters affecting Govan, making the future of the graving docks a key campaign issue, and unlike other parties has not tried to make the council election a proxy for national issues.
If Allan is elected it will send a clear message to New City Vision, to Glasgow City Council and to the Scottish Government that the people of Govan do not want a gentrified housing development on the graving docks.
A few weeks ago we arranged a film crew to record vox pops interviews outside the Riverside Hall in Govan, where New City Vision were holding their second exhibition on their plans to build up to 750 flats on the docks, for the documentary we have commissioned about Govan Graving Docks. This was to get balanced views on what people thought of New City Vision's proposals. The team were only able to get one interview before SNP Councillor Stephen Dornan (whom we believe supports New City Vision's plans to redevelop the docks) interrupted and ushered everyone away - as you can see in this video clip:
