Give women the freedom to choose their driver with all female taxi app.

Give women the freedom to choose their driver with all female taxi app.

The Issue

There is no denying that women face vulnerable situations throughout their day to day life, one of which is getting into a taxi.

Rosy and Pink Cars has been developed with this in mind. It is a taxi firm designed to help ensure female passengers feel safe. Rosy and Pink Cars will guarantee that females will be picked up by a female driver.

It has also been designed with female drivers in mind, to help them feel safer when they are out driving, particularly at night.

Rosy and Pink Cars Ltd is an app only taxi firm, so the taxis must be ordered, they cannot be flagged down.

There has been a lot of support for the firm, including women from different faiths and beliefs who cannot be in the company of men, other than their husbands. This leaves them with little choice, other than ordering a taxi and requesting a female driver, which must be done well in advance.

The app has also received support from Women’s Aid. A spokesperson said of the app  “there is no avoiding the fact that women are vulnerable in daily life, this is increased in situations where women are alone…it seems an obvious solution”

I would like to bring your attention to some articles related to attacks on women by male taxi drivers.

It is with deep frustration that the licensing chiefs at Glasgow City Council have rejected the proposal for Rosy and Pink Cars, stating that, “members of the committee were concerned this was discriminatory in nature.”

We want to appeal this decision and this petition is the start of a long process to do so. This taxi app is not discriminatory against men, it is discriminatory against violent men and sexual predators. There are currently 1,420 taxis and almost 3,900 licensed private cabs in Glasgow, so this would have absolutely no bearing on men – there are plenty of other choices.

Women deserve to feel safe and make their own choices about who drives them home – and this app is designed to do that.

We would love your support for this app, whether you are a woman who supports it or a male who would feel more comfortable if they knew their partner/mother/child was being driven home by a woman – particularly late at night.
