No vaccine mandates within the fitness industry

The issue

As of recently, the NSW and Victoria ‘Roadmaps’ have outlined that when both states reach particular vaccination percentages, gym and indoor recreational facilities will be able to reopen strictly for those who have received two doses of the available vaccinations, or to those who have a certificate of medical exemption.

This implies that access to work within, or utilise these resources, will be denied to unvaccinated individuals.

It is under our strong belief that mandates which exclude individuals from working within the industry or accessing resources based on their personal medical choices promote segregation and discrimination. This is not in the best interest of the businesses which impose the said mandates, nor for its members or the community it serves.

The fitness industry within Australia so often represents diversity, freedom of choice and bodily integrity, and the ability for all persons to improve their overall state of health. The roadmap outlined above would utterly undermine the values that the fitness industry is relied upon to uphold. All individuals should have the right to participate within the industry, whether that be through the form of work or through membership access, irrespective of their personal medical choices.

Alternative measures of cleanliness, disinfection, hygiene and safety can be effectively applied to ensure that all members of the community have fair access to gyms and indoor recreation facilities, whilst limiting the risk of transmission.
