Thank you for your support in seeking access to natural sounds in wild and scenic Glacier National Park. These efforts will make it possible to listen to the beauty as well as view it. The Quiet! Glacier open-letter has been received by decision makers, and work will continue until it is a Quiet! Glacier. Daily life is littered with man-made noise- its constant, intermittent, a cacophony of frequencies and loudness- almost everywhere – and totally accepted. Though we have become numb to it, noise clutters, clouds and disrupts our lives, dulls and frustrates our thoughts, our emotions, and our relationships to others and to nature. The peace and quiet of mind and spirit are lost in the helicopter chopping up the air in sharp-edged, jarring, harsh and disruptive pieces; noise that comes from at least seven sources on a helicopter (http://quietglacier.wixsite.com/coalitioninformation/the-problem). Noise is not what one is listening for when visiting Glacier. Natural sounds are important to all living creatures, as mentioned in a recent article published in The Wildlife Society: Noise pollution affects even the smallest wildlife (by Dana Kobilinsky, 5/31/17, http://wildlife.org/noise-pollution-affects-even-the-smallest-wildlife/).
