Today, 05 August 2024, The Kya Sand Burning Wasteland Community Forum won the first victory in the Johannesburg High Court. The Court issued a Court Order which compels the City Of Johannesburg to conduct comprehensive air quality testing at the De-Commissioned Kya Sand Waste Disposal Site. 

This site is where the illegal dumping and burning of waste started, and this site is a major source of air pollution. This site was also the first illegal dump site and its existence has given rise to an illegal waste industry - which now comprises fourteen known sites.

The battle is not over and we are still in need of signatures for our petition, but this is an excellent start.
