Give Walmart Associates the Gift of Time With Their Families
To Walmart Leadership John Furner and the Walton Family:

I am asking Walmart to make a meaningful change for its associates: close Walmart stores on Christmas Day, December 25, and give every Walmart associate the day off.

Christmas is one of the most cherished holidays of the year. It is a time when families, friends, partners, and loved ones come together to celebrate, create memories, and simply enjoy one another's company.

Walmart associates deserve that same opportunity.

Employees Are People Before They Are Employees
Walmart associates work hard throughout the year to serve millions of customers. During the holiday season, that work can become even more demanding.

Associates deserve the opportunity to step away from the busy retail environment and spend Christmas Day with the people who matter most to them.

Treat employees like they make a difference, and they will continue making a difference.

When employees are given time to rest, recharge, and spend meaningful time with their families, they can return to work happier, less stressed, and more prepared to provide the excellent customer service Walmart expects.

Walmart Can Put People First
Walmart has invested enormously in technology, e-commerce, automation, artificial intelligence, online shopping, and other tools that allow customers to shop in ways that don't always require a physical store to be open.

That raises an important question:

Does Walmart really need its physical stores to be open on Christmas Day?

I believe the answer is no.

Giving associates one day away from work would not erase Walmart's commitment to customers. Instead, it would demonstrate that Walmart is committed to the people who make the company successful.

There are many retailers and businesses that recognize the importance of giving their employees time with their families during major holidays.

Walmart can be a leader in doing the same.

Put People Over Profits — At Least for One Day
Walmart is one of the largest and most successful companies in the world. Its success is built not only on technology, stores, and products, but also on millions of associates who show up every day to serve customers.

Those associates deserve to know that their lives outside of work matter.

Christmas Day should not have to be a choice between earning a paycheck and spending time with your family.

For one day, Walmart can choose people.

Remember Sam Walton's Philosophy
Sam Walton famously emphasized the importance of the customer and the role employees play in Walmart's success.

His philosophy recognized that Walmart's success ultimately depends on people.

If Walmart truly wants to honor that philosophy, it should also recognize that happy, respected, and appreciated associates are essential to creating happy customers.

Giving associates Christmas Day off would be a powerful way to demonstrate that Walmart values the people behind the company.

A Simple Request
We are not asking Walmart to close for weeks.

We are not asking Walmart to stop serving its customers.

We are asking for one day.

December 25 — Christmas Day.

Close Walmart stores for Christmas Day and give Walmart associates the opportunity to spend the day with their children, parents, grandparents, siblings, partners, friends, and loved ones.

Let associates celebrate Christmas without worrying about their work schedule.

Let families make memories together.

Let Walmart show America that its associates are more than just employees—they are people, parents, children, spouses, partners, friends, neighbors, and members of our communities.
