Narcity has covered issues we have brought forth in this petition.

As Jwalit Bharwani stated in his letter to the university, it is unreasonable to enforce back to class mandates when the rest of the province has a choice whether they want to visit gyms, dine in, theatres, or other establishments that have been closed due to the provincial lockdown.

I understand that the University has made it a priority for students to get vaccinated, but we are now unable to remain in study areas or break areas in between classes now as we once used to. This creates a problem for the students as we are forced to leave the building after class to find another spot in public areas to study and wait for our next class.

The professors however have the comfort of their office in between classes or a vehicle on their way to class. As students, many of us have to commute and because the TTC is an essential service, there are no vaccine mandates for passengers and capacity is rarely enforced on it.

We believe for this semester since it is the winter and one month in the term now, we should have a choice to continue online. Surely 300 students in a lecture hall isn't a great idea or 50 in a classroom that never anticipated for social distancing. If the university was indeed following provincial guidelines, they should implement and follow what other establishments in Toronto has done in regards to distancing and lowering the risk of transmission.
